Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why is my insurance company calling for me to replace my oil tank?

A: Depending on the tank model and internal policy of the insurance company tanks need to be replaced every 10-25 years.

Q: I have oil on a budget plan, can you add a new furnace oil tank to my monthly charges?

A: Yes, we offer very convenient financing plans on some oil tank models as well as furnaces and other heating equipment.

Q: Can I transfer the oil from my old tank into my new steel tank?

A: No, it is prohibited by law. There is a risk of introducing contamination from the old tank into the new tank. Introducing contamination will shorten the life of a new tank. In accordance with provincial regulations, contaminated oil is taken to an environmental treatment facility.

Q: What is the best time of the year to replace an old tank?

A: Spring and summer are the best time as your tank is close to empty.

Q: What type of furnace oil tank is better?

A: Tank selection will depend on the existing and future location, and budget. A steel or Fiberglass tank can be installed inside or out and we recommend the double wall for interior installations. A fiberglass tank has a life (insurability) expectancy of 15-25 years depending on your broker. Our staff can access your home and provide you with options.

Q: Can I buy and install a used oil tank?

A: No, it is prohibited by law.

Q: How much furnace oil is in a tank?

A: A 200 gallon steel or fiberglass oil tank is designed for 900 liters and a double walled tank can hold 1,000 liters

Q: How do I buy a furnace oil tank?

A: You would need to contact a licensed fuel tank installer. We would present you options and provide a full written quote for the tank, materials and labour to install. Upon acceptance, our service department would schedule a convenient time to do the installation.

Q: What is a top draw?

A: A top draw is required for all new installations of outside oil tanks. The oil is pumped from the top of the tank to your furnace, oil boiler or oil-fired water heater.

Q: Can I paint my tank?

A: Yes, however most new tanks come prepainted. If you do, light colours are recommend to discourage condensation and pressure build-up in the summer.

Q: What is the warranty for an oil storage tank?

A: Most manufactures offer warranties that exceed what a typical insurance company requires. A Steel tank carries a 25-year warranty, Fiberglass and double walled tanks are 30 years.
